Adwords Editor Version 6.0 Released

I'm pretty happy to find out that Google has just released a new version of it's awesome Adwords campaign management software, Adwords Editor.

If you're unfamiliar with Adwords Editor, it's a free tool that lets you easily manage your Adwords account, allowing you to make many kinds of bulk changes.

New in version 6.0 of Adwords Editor are features that accommodate recent changes in Adwords policy such as CPC Placement Targeted campaigns.

From the release notes, there are some exciting new features in Adwords Editor 6.0:

  1. Account Statistics

    • Now you can export a CSV file that includes performance statistics. With a CSV file containing your account statistics, you could analyze your account in Microsoft Excel. This would also be convenient for exporting into a database like MySQL for deep analysis as I often do with my account statistics.

    • Specify minimum CPC bids. When downloading your account changes, you can specify that you'd like to also download your minimum CPC bids.

    • Downloading stats. When you download your account statistics, Adwords Editor will download fresh (as opposed to old) statistics for your account.
  2. Editing tools

    • Spell Check is now available so that your ads won't look like they were written by a 2nd grade drop out. But spell check is not only available for ads; it's also available for keywords - which of course wouldn't be very useful if you're bidding on misspelled keywords. But the spell check could be useful and it's available in 7 different languages.

    • Append text: This looks cool. You can add text before or after existing text in the columns and rows that you choose. Looks like a time saver for those of us with a gazillion ads running.

    • Drag and drop will allow you to drag ad groups from one campaign to another. Not that cutting and pasting was all that difficult, but still a nice feature to have.

    • Formula words in the replace text tool. Read more about formula words here.
  3. Adwords feature support

    • CPC placement targeting is now supported in Adwords Editor 6.0, and that's cool because you can now bulk edit such campaigns.

    • Conversion Optimized campaigns are supported.

    • You can add negative sites at the ad group level
  4. Duplicate keywords

    • There's a cool  feature that allows you to quickly select all of the duplicate keywords that meet a certain criteria, then you can edit or delete them as you wish
  5. Adwords Editor Settings

    • Diagnostic Logging is a new feature that I turned on today because I was getting some errors with this new release. Lots of people are in fact and I understand the Adwords Editor team knows about this and they're working on resolving the issues.
  6. Other new Features

    • Advanced Search features are available so you can place restrictions on your searches within your account.

    • Backups of your account are automatically created when you use 'Get Full Account' to download your account.

    • New Keyboard Shortcuts

So I'm pretty stoked about the new Adwords Editor Version 6.0.

The only problem is that I keep getting errors when I try to do anything useful with it. I've tried it on a Vista machine, an XP machine, and a Ubuntu machine running Wine.

But, it seems I'm not alone as Google has confirmed these error issues.

And if you've never used Adwords Editor, I'd recommend that you try it; either an older release or wait until the problems with 6.0 are resolved. But try it. It's free. And it will help you work more efficiently.
